Gov. Murphy Orders U.S. and N.J. Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff In Honor Of Private First Class Anthony P. Steitz

Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 67 on Wednesday, ordering all U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, to honor the life of Private First Class Anthony P. Steitz.

“Private First Class Anthony P. Steitz was taken from us much too soon in a tragic automobile accident,” Murphy said in a statement.

“His selfless service and dedication to our state and country will not be forgotten. Tammy and I would like to express our sincere condolences to Anthony’s family and friends in this difficult time.”

Steitz, who was just 17, was tragically killed in a car crash on Saturday on Route 78.

Steitz was a Junior ROTC Cadet at Union High School and did a lot of work with the New Jersey Veterans Network.

He recently joined the New Jersey National Guard.

He has been posthumously promoted to Private First Class and will receive a military funeral.
