Israel’s deputy foreign minister says the government has decided to bar Tlaib and Omar who support the BDS movement from entering the country.
AIPAC condemned the decision in a tweet saying “We disagree with Reps. Omar and Tlaib’s support for the anti-Israel and anti-peace BDS movement, along with Rep. Tlaib’s calls for a one-state solution. We also believe every member of Congress should be able to visit and experience our democratic ally Israel firsthand.”
In a statement, Netanyahu wrote “There is no country that respects the US and the US Congress more than the State of Israel….Israel’s law prohibits the entry of people who call and operate to boycott Israel.”
Adding “Congressmen Talib and Omar are defined their visit destination as Palestine, not Israel” They were also not planning on meeting any Israeli representatives.
Omar cried foul in a statement saying:
Dov Hikind slammed back saying “Why didn’t you join the Democrats who went to Israel last week?
Why did you need your own trip billed as one exclusively to “Palestine”? Why do you think it’s ok to undermine a state and expect to be welcomed? Because you’re an Antisemite. We know. No amount of spin will help.”
Hikind was referring to a delegation of 41 Democratic and 31 Republican members of Congress who came to Israel this past week.
