Billionaire businessman Warren Buffet said on Monday that he would back former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg if he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination.
“If Mike Bloomberg announced tomorrow that he was a candidate, I would say I’m for him,” Buffett told CNBC, adding: “I think he would be a very good president.”
Buffet, a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party, said he and Bloomberg differ on some issues, but that he believes the former mayor “knows how to run things.”
“I think that he knows how to run things. I think he’s got the right goals for America. He understands people. He understands the market system. And he understands the problems of people who are not in the market.”
Bloomberg, 77, ran as an independent during his last successful campaign, when was re-elected mayor for a third term in 2009. He was a Republican in his first two terms. Bloomberg switched his party affiliation from independent to Democrat in October.
